From darkness to light 6

When they arrived, I was already relieved. But I didn’t have time to dry my clothes or whisper a spell for a cold. Water has never harmed me. Before. My magic was fueled by her. But next to the oldest creatures on earth, magic did not work.

An hour later I started sneezing. After two, she coughed all over. And after three she went limp, rolling off the back of a large wolf.

-Roxanne? Damn. This is still not enough! — growled Saint. And that was the last thing I heard before I passed out.

The giants were excited, just as nervous as the stones could be. The orcs acting as escorts dropped their axes and began gathering fires in preparation for a long halt.

It looks like they tried to get me drunk with something creepy. It must have been the Orks’ best cold remedy. The one from which it’s not a shame to throw the skates away. For not having magic, they used roots and herbs in their medicine, which is not bad. And the dried corpses of unworthy animals, like rats, which is not acceptable.

I thought I woke up. But she didn’t remember how she fell asleep. It was dark all around, and even a brightly burning fire did not illuminate this darkness. On the contrary, it made it difficult to see anything other than the tongues of its flames.

-Witch. I recognize this voice from a thousand. Out of a million. — You look lousy.

Right out of the flame, out of the fire, came a silhouette. A long coat, an impeccable suit, a hat I hate, and a cane with a silver head.

-Klaus. — I whispered, tormented by a sore throat. She tried to turn away, but she couldn’t. There was no strength at all. It was enough for me to put my hand on the paw of the wolf. To feel connected to the real world. — I’m dying? Or already?

Klaus laughed. Just recently, I thought I would never hear that laugh again. Because with her own hands she cut off his existence on earth. He was the first threat to this world. I just did what I had to. However, he did not remain at a loss, having received incommensurably more instead of living souls. The whole underworld.

-Not yet. Klaus smiled. “But at this rate… One more healing decoction for orcs on rat tails, and our meeting will happen in another world.”

I felt sick. Taking a deep breath didn’t help much, and Klaus smiled knowingly. This caused a fit of terrible anger. For a moment, I felt that I could bring him back to where he came from.

— Okay! — As always, Klaus felt this edge better than me. He raised his hands placatingly. — I’m not behind it.

He sat down next to her and gently touched her forehead. The hand was terribly cold. But in a strange way, I felt better.

-Be patient. Now it will be very bad. But it is necessary. — A caring voice, gentle lips, a whisper, a light kiss on the wrist. And an impossible sharp pain in the whole body.

I screamed, arching my whole body, and clung to the wolf with all my might.

-Be patient. A little patience! Now it will get better. A little more, dear. Klaus said, and the pain really receded.

I felt terrible weakness. The whole body trembled, but the pain receded.

-Everything is fine. Sleep.” Klaus kissed my wrist again. -Rest.

I must have really fallen asleep. Because I woke up late in the morning. There was no pain, consciousness was clear, but the wrist was like ice. Fingers tingled slightly. I raised my hand to my eyes, but I did not notice any changes. That must be what happens when death itself kisses you.

-How are you?! The Saint leaned over me anxiously.

— Seems to be alive. I sighed.

— You were very ill at night. You screamed. He was saying something else, but I suddenly got distracted. On the fine silver-blue fur of the wolf’s paw, ruby drops of blood were scarlet.

I reached out my hand, but in the next moment I felt an impossible stench and forgot about everything.

-Orcs say you need a drink! — Saint and he tried his best not to wrinkle his nose. He must be really lousy with the wolf’s sense of smell.

— I won’t drink it! — I was indignant.

— It is necessary! — Declared impudent orc. -We treat you at night. Got better. Drink!

— This is not your merit! — I tore the glass out of his paw and splashed out the slurry under the nearest bush. How it didn’t dry out was a mystery to me. -Let’s go!

I got up. Whatever games Klaus is up to, there are more serious things now. Unless, of course, they are related …
