From darkness to light.

-What have I done, Saint? I thrust the scroll into his hands and rushed to the place where I had opened the teleporter.

So, it seems, a little closer to the window. Or not?! where is that damn trail? Calmly. Here! Magical traces do not disappear so quickly. I twisted, and in a moment the portal opened again.

-Hey! I’m with you! -Holy intercepted my hand and stepped inside first.

We were in a bad place. It was dark, gloomy, and a bit tall. From a height of no less than a meter, we plopped into the fetid slush, and it gladly began to devour us.

«Holy!!» I yelled. I’m a witch, but still a girl. I can’t stand any fetid swamps. And drown in them, thank you!

— Hold on. -Svyat tried to get up, but only plunged even deeper.

The floundering in the quagmire did not bear any fruit, except that we sank deeper and deeper. It was not possible to stand up, or at least take a more or less upright position.

“Oooh, damn it!” I growled, remembering at least one spell that could help. -Now, I’ll think of something!

I clung to Svyat with a death grip and threw my arm up with all my strength. The levitation spell pulled us out of the swamp like a carrot and sent us flying out of control like a champagne cork. I’m afraid our screams have deafened more than one swamp fairy. And deserters have increased in the camp of the enemy army of orcs. And it is not surprising if it, our howl, acquires legends and in another hundred years they begin to frighten children with it. But sorry, who wouldn’t yell?!

When the air ended, and the flight was not yet, I came to my senses and made adjustments. We plummeted down, then soared up, hovering in front of the full disk of the moon (I think this gave rise to several more legends) and rushed down again. Damn. I can’t get used to being too strong. This is not boasting. The high witch can use the power of the entire clan. But this power is not native. Like a prosthesis. Therefore, in desperate moments, slips occur. Like this one.

The flight ended wet. We plunged into the water, which turned out to be a small but clear river.

— Wow. — Just said the Saint, pulling me ashore and falling down next to me in exhaustion.

I giggled nervously, and in a second we were both laughing indecently, frightening all the surrounding owls.

“I can’t stop,” I barely managed to utter, wiping tears from laughter.

-Just let’s go without magic, otherwise we won’t survive this time. The saint took a deep breath and tried to calm down.

I couldn’t stop my nervous giggles for another minute. And only then did she think of her poor friend. No, I didn’t worry that the Cat would drown in that swamp. After all, he was accompanied by a forest nymph. And she certainly won’t allow any unplanned deaths in her home. But then where to look for it?

-Okay. Let’s go home and try again to return to the teleporter. We’ll find some traces there. — I suggested.

“Uh…” The holy tugged at my hand, drawing my attention. — I’m afraid it won’t work.

Stone giants came out of the forest one by one to the shore. Orcs marched beside them. Any, even the smallest orc is still higher than the tallest person at times. But against the background of stone giants, they seemed small. We even backed off a bit. Orcs are a stupid, cocky people. Too stupid to hold the reclaimed lands, but too warlike to stop fighting. But the giants… How did they get here? Why should the eternal inhabitants fight? What do we have to share?

-Greetings, eternal inhabitants! – Holy said, stepping forward and pushing me behind his back.

-Wolf. Leave. -Prorokotal one of the giants.

— With joy. — Said Holy, and turned to leave, pushing me forward,

A huge stone ax blocked our path.

-Witch. It will stay.” The giant rumbled.

Why are you a witch? Magic doesn’t work on you! The Saint was surprised.

I looked around. Damn. On the other side, the same giants stood like a silent wall. We were surrounded tightly. How is that? Why didn’t the fairies say the orcs weren’t alone? Or what, are they in cahoots? But what is the purpose?! What to take from me?! Neither orcs nor giants recognize magic! What’s going on here?!?!

-Witch. Goes. With us. You. Free. — It was difficult for them to speak aloud, and each word sounded separately, accompanied by a long pause.

The giants turned around and silently moved along the shore, against the current of the river. On North. To the mountains. Hmm… They drag me to their house?! The orcs silently surrounded us and the axes rested unfriendly in the back.

-Let’s go.- The saint embraced me, — We’ll figure it out along the way.
